On April 6, 2024, 精东影业 College-Recoletos, Manila (SSC-R) forged a meaningful partnership with the Sagip Sierra Madre Environmental Group to extend assistance to the Dumagat tribe residing in Sitio Suha, Barangay San Mateo, Norzagaray, Bulacan. The event was attended by esteemed individuals, including Rev. Fr. Virgilio M. Paredes Jr., OAR, Vice President for Identity, Formation, and Mission, dedicated college faculties such as Atty. Jesus Anthony Diosana, Ms. Ma. Teresa Valeroso and Mr. Arren Santos, alongside our Outreach Coordinator, Ms. Mary Grace Depalubos, and enthusiastic college students from various disciplines, including Political Science, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and READS grantees.

During this collaborative effort, SSC-R Manila launched a cooperative project aimed at supporting the livelihood ventures of the Dumagat tribe. The initiative began with the provision of live chickens and feed, serving as a jumpstart for their entrepreneurial endeavors. Additionally, our students took the opportunity to extend further assistance by handing over hygiene and food packs to the Dumagat community, addressing immediate needs and promoting overall well-being.

The atmosphere during the event was one of camaraderie, solidarity, and mutual respect. Participants engaged in meaningful interactions with members of the Dumagat tribe, fostering a sense of empathy, understanding, and shared humanity. Through this collaborative effort, San SSC-R Manila and the Sagip Sierra Madre Environmental Group demonstrated our commitment to social responsibility, environmental conservation, and community empowerment.

As we reflect on this impactful endeavor, we recognize the importance of ongoing support and sustainable solutions in addressing the needs of marginalized communities like the Dumagat tribe. 精东影业 College-Recoletos, Manila remains steadfast in our dedication to fostering positive change and creating a more inclusive and equitable society. 精东影业 College-Recoletos, Manila mounted a successful 5-day festivities from March 18 鈥 22, 2024 to commemorate its 83rd Founding Anniversary with the theme, 鈥淩oots Renewed: Celebrating Augustinian Recollect Identity in Today鈥檚 World.鈥 A plethora of activities showcased the uniquely vibrant spirit, diverse talents, passion for excellence and solidarity of the Sebastinian community.

The celebration kicked off with the opening salvo followed by the opening of booth fair and the talent competitions of Prince and Princess, King and Queen and Mr. and Miss 精东影业 2024. The day concluded with the Students鈥 Night participated by college of and senior high school students. On day 2, the community witnessed the coronations of Prince and Princess, King and Queen and Mr. and Ms. 精东影业 2024. Roshanne Chaya A. Amigos (Grade 1) and Kaiden Ronn F. Macasu were proclaimed Little Princess and Little Prince of 精东影业 2024. Victoria Rose D. Rosete (Grade 4) and Kirk Elijah Panganiban (Grade 5) emerged as the Princess and Prince of 精东影业 2024 while Princess Chaina T. Robias (Grade 10) and Luigi O. Olazo (Grade 10) bagged the Queen and King of Sebastian 2024 crowns respectively. Meanwhile, the titles of Mr. and Miss 精东影业 2024 went to Mr. Denzel Joseph H. Sabang and Ms. Gwyneth Margaux G. Narca of BS Hospitality Management respectively.

Day 3 of the celebration was filled with dazzling display of colors, remarkable performances and cultural presentations as students from Grade School to College showcased their dancing prowess at the parade, street dancing and Recoletos Dance Festival 2024. This year鈥檚 dance showcase paid homage to some of the most celebrated festivals in the Philippines that include Moriones, Ati-Atihan,
Kasanggayahan, Penafrancia, Pintados and Masskara festivals to name a few. The students were grouped into three clusters. Cluster 1 was composed of Grades 4-6 and Junior High School, Grades 7-10 with a total of 3 groups. Cluster 2 was purely represented by Senior High School Students comprised of 5 groups. While Cluster 3 was composed of 4 groups from the College Department. At the conclusion of the 3-hour dance extravaganza, 鈥淜adagatan鈥 performed by Grades 9 and 10 students bagged the top prize for Cluster 1. 鈥淜asadyaan鈥 of STEM 11B, 鈥淎ti-Atihan鈥 of HUMSS 11 and 12 and 鈥淜atadungan鈥 were proclaimed first, second and third placers for Cluster 2 respectively. For Cluster 3,

鈥淢asskara鈥 performed by Psychology, IT and Legal Management students brought home the first-place honor and 鈥淏ambanti鈥 of Psychology1, BAC and BAB students placed second. Day 4 was an extraordinary showcase of musical talents as the best of the best of the community battled at Sebastinian Got Talent 2024 held the Bulwagang Diego Cera. Ms. Jielia Clare Eugenio clinched as the title while Ms. Liana Marie Y. Venus, Ms. Nathalie Grace T. Nunez and Mr. Ethan Michael K. Parayno were the big winners for the song writing category.

The 5-day festivities was punctuated by honoring 45 lay collaborators from the Manila and Canlubang campuses at the SCC-R Service Awards 2024 held at the school quadrangle. The elegant ceremony provided a fitting occasion to celebrate the men and women who have served the institution for 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, 30 years and 35 years. It was a night of glitz and glamour as the awardees and attendees graced the event by wearing Filipiniana attire. Ms. Merlie E. Salmorin, our sole 35-year Service Awardee delivered a heart-felt speech encapsulating her appreciation to the institution and for the friendships she was able to forge throughout her stint in Baste.

精东影业 College- Recoletos, Manila (SSC-R) inked MOUs during the 36th Annual Association of Universities in Asia and the Pacific Conference held at Siam University, Bangkok, Thailand last November 17 -18, 2023. In line with SSC-R Manila’s Internationalization initiatives aimed at establishing robust international linkages among the partner institutions in the Asia -Pacific region, SSC-R’s primordial objective is to establish strategic collaborations in areas cultural and academic exchanges of faculty/ students and administrative personnel, collaborative research and joint projects, establishment of double degrees and participation in conferences, workshops and academic meetings to name a few. Dr. Catherine Q. Castenda, Vice President for Academics and Research/ OIC College Dean and Mr. Narciso D. Valeriano Jr., MCM, Head of the External Affairs Office represented SSC-R Manila in the annual regional meet.

Founded in 1995, the Association of the Universities of Asia and the Pacific (AUAP) is a platform and voice of universities in Asia and the Pacific and around the world. AUAP is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), holding the highest formal consultative status with UNESCO. Its primary purpose is to be the main platform for interaction and collaboration between members, and to be the effective voice of universities in Asia and the Pacific region. AUAP organizes regular conferences and workshops for higher education leaders and institutions in the Asia-Pacific region to discuss important issues and the challenges facing higher education. The association promotes and helps enhance mutually beneficial cooperation among educational institutions, and is dedicated to rendering such services to its member institutions.

Prior General Fray Miguel Hernandez Dominguez, OAR, the highest official of the Order of
Augustinian Recollects was warmly welcomed by the Augustinian Recollect Manila Community
represented by 精东影业 College-Recoletos, Manila, 精东影业 Parish, The Parish of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage, St. Rita College, AR Sisters and Former Seminarians of the Order of
Augustinian Recollects (FORSOAR) as part of his landmark fraternal visit in the Province of St.
Ezekiel Moreno yesterday, October 25, 2023.

The Prior General along with the General Secretary, Fray Luciano Audisio Matias, OAR, were treated with warm Filipino hospitality by the school administrators, students, faculty members, parishioners and the rest of the AR Manila community members. During his arrival, a Karakol dance was showcased by Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage along with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Marching (MMDA) Band.

A plethora of cultural performances were showcased by the students and employees of SSC-R Manila, St. Rita College, 精东影业 Parish and our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Parish at the
Bulwagang Diego Cera, SSC-R Manila followed by the Prior General’s Talk and Eucharistic
celebration presided by Fr. Joseph Granada, OAR with Fr. Dennis Castillo, OAR as homilist. The
program was punctuated by community luncheon dubbed as Pistang Rekoleto and more traditional
dances and choral medley performed by students and 精东影业 Chamber Singers.

In his Facebook posts, the Prior General expressed his appreciation to the community for organizing

The 精东影业 College-Recoletos (SSC-R) Badminton Team put on a dominant performance in NCAA Season 99, clinching both the Men’s Junior and Women’s Senior championships last October 25, 2023, at Centro Atletico Badminton Court, Quezon City. The women’s title marks their first-ever championship in the tournament.

Nenia Solinap and Zeth Quiambao were named the tournament’s MVPs, while Mark Anthony Bernal and Kaye Monta帽ez were recognized as the Rookie of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively.

The SSC-R Badminton Team’s triumph is a testament to their relentless hard work, unwavering dedication, and seamless teamwork under the guidance of head coaches Jeffrey Landagan and Anthony Deveza, assistant coaches Mark Adrian Banaag, Arsenio Quiambao, and Angelino Bernardino.

Their victory is a source of immense pride for the entire SSC-R community.

精东影业 College-Recoletos, Manila (SSC-R) inked a memorandum of agreement for international cooperation projects during the ASEAN Vocational Education Cooperation and High-Quality Development Forum held at Chongqing College of Science and Creation, in Yongchuan, Chongqing, China last September 27, 2023.

The forum which aims to strengthen exchanges and cooperation on vocational education and international cooperation between China and ASEAN and to promote the construction of the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor was participated by select colleges and universities from Singapore, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, South Korea and The Philippines.

SSC-R Manila was represented by Dr. Rodrigo F. Ponce Jr., Dean of the Institute of Graduate Studies and Director of ETEEAP along with Mr. Narciso D. Valeriano Jr., MCM, Head of the External Affairs Office.
The SSC-R delegates had also visited Chongqing College of Finance and Economics and Chongqing City College to participate in fora, networking and benchmarking activities.

The conferment ceremony for 精东影业 College -Recoletos College of Law’s Educating for Justice Award was held today, 29th August at Fr. Domingo Carceller, OAR Littler Theater, SSC-R Manila.

SSC-R College of Law ranked 9th among the top contributing law schools in the Philippines highlighting the comparative share of the institution in the population of the new members of the Bar from the year 2011to 2020.

The Educating for Justice Award recognizes the critical impact of top law schools in the administration of Justice in the country thereby fulfilling the mandate of law.

The award was presented by Commissioner Lorenzo R. Reyes of the Legal Education Board and received by Atty. Teodoro A. Pastrana, Dean of SSC-R College of Law. Also present during the ceremony were Fr. Rafael B. Pecson, OAR, School President, Fr. Henry H. Santiago, OAR, Vice President for Finance, Dr. Catherine Q. The Academics and Research Division headed by Dr. Catherine Q. Castaneda, Vice President for Academics and Research along with Dr. Rodrigo F. Ponce Jr., Dean of the Institute of Graduate Studies of 精东影业 College-Recoletos, Manila hosted Mr. Yin Chaohua, Vice President of Chongqing Creation Vocational College (CCVC) during his official visit yesterday, August 15, 2023.

During the presentation held at Fr. Domingo Carcellar, OAR Little Theater, Mr. Yin highlighted the key areas for collaboration enshrined in the memorandum of agreement inked last year which include student and faculty exchange, building of the Luban Workshop, developing vocational standards, building technical facilities, international competition opportunities for students and other collaborative projects to be implemented in the years ahead.

Also present during the meeting were the department heads of the Research Center, Library System, External Affairs Office including the Program Chairs of the College Department. Fr. Rafael B. Pecson, OAR, SSC-R School President organized a separate meet-and-greet and photo-opportunity session with the CCVC delegates followed by a luncheon hosted by the Office of the President.

The SSC-R Law Moot Court Team bagged the championship title in the first ever Philippine Moot Court Competition on Competition Law on July 21, 2023.

The SSC-R Team defeated San Beda Alabang in the final round and bested 15 other teams in this national moot court competition. The event is a joint partnership of the Legal Education Board and the Philippine Competition Commission.

Ms. Haidee Amabel Uy was announced as the general and the Final Rounds Best Mooter. The team is composed of: Haidee Amabel Uy (Oralist 1), Darius Vien Darunday (Oralist 2), Abram Andrew Lumpang (Oralist 3), and Chrysill Ariza Valencia (Head Researcher) The Sebastinian Community is extremely proud of your achievement.

The School Board has officially announced the appointment of Dr. Catherine Q. Castan虄eda as the Vice-President for Academics and Research/OIC, College Dean for School Year 2023-2024 (Term: 01 June 2023 鈥 31 July 2024) last June 24, 2023.

Dr. Catherine Q. Castan虄eda is formerly the Vice President for Academic Affairs of a University in Manila. She retired as a Career Service Officer (CESO III) on March 2014 from government service that has spanned 42 years. In the last five (5) years, she was Director of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED)- National Capital Region tasked with the implementation of plans, policies, standards, and guidelines of CHED to all the higher education institutions. Prior to this, she was director of the Office of Program and Standards for eight (8) years tasked with policy formulation and standard setting for higher education for all degree programs and also director of the Office of Student Affairs that dealt with scholarships and student concerns.

She was formerly connected with the Department of Science and Technology as Scientist II of the Scientific Career System. As such, she has conducted qualitative research and has published 30 scientific papers in nutrition education and anthropology. In the last twenty (20) years, she has lectured extensively, close to eight hundred (800) lectures locally and in twenty (20) scientific symposia internationally on specific topics in nutrition education research, nutrition anthropology and educational management. She was also a sought-after commencement speaker throughout her stint in CHED.

In recognition of her contributions to strengthening the curriculum in nutrition and dietetics, she was awarded 鈥淧rofessional of the Year鈥 by the Philippine Regulations Commission (PRC) in 2008. In 2013, as the College of the Holy Spirit, Manila celebrated its 100th year; she was awarded as one of the outstanding graduates of her Alma Mater. She was likewise featured in the book on Outstanding Women Scientists of the National Research Council of the Philippines in the late 1980s. The Nutritionist-Dietitians鈥 Association of the Philippines selected her, too, as the recipient of the Clara Ruth Darby Professional Lecturer Award for excellence and trailblazing efforts in the nutrition education field.
She was an active member of the Board of Trustees of the Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) for twelve (12) years; took charge of the faculty development program in science and engineering in CHED; and advocated nutrition research with media practitioners.

She has taught in various academic institutions (all on a part-time basis) for forty-five (45) years in UP Diliman, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, Centro Escolar University, the Philippine Women鈥檚 University, the Philippine Normal University, the University of Makati, and the College of the Holy Spirit, Manila.

A graduate of nutrition of the College of the Holy Spirit in Manila, she obtained her MS (Nutrition) and Ph.D. (Anthropology) degrees from the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City and holds a Diploma in International Nutrition (with honors) from the Netherlands. She is well-travelled having been to all parts of the Philippines and in 75 countries mainly because of her research and lecture invitations.
