In keeping with its core commitment to service, 精东影业 College-Recoletos Manila (SSC-R) extended assistance to the Department of Education’s Brigada Eskwela program for academic year 2024鈥2025. The institution鈥檚 outreach program was intended to help public schools get ready for the new school year. This year鈥檚 initiative was led by the Junior High School Department, the St. Thomas of Villanova Library, and the Sebastinian Community Development and Extension Office (SCDEO).

SSC-R Manila provided a selection of materials as part of the聽initiative to F. Benitez Integrated School in Manila.聽聽 School supplies, storybooks, and reference books were handed over to the school on August 18 and September 6, 2024.

The principals of the school conveyed their appreciation to SSC-R Manila for its generosity and highlighted the impact it has made on the physical enhancement of their school library.

In response to the widespread devastation caused by Super Typhoon Carina, 精东影业 College-Recoletos Manila organized the Lingap Recoleto Donation Initiative on July 24, 2024 aimed at offering extensive support not only to its students and employees who were directly impacted but also to the broader community affected by the disaster. This initiative underscores the college’s deep commitment to humanitarian efforts and highlights the critical importance of community solidarity during such challenging times.

The success of this donation drive is bolstered by the involvement of various collaborators, alumni, and external sponsors. The college’s administrators played a pivotal role in coordinating these efforts, ensuring smooth communication across departments and overseeing the initiative’s effective execution. Employees and students have contributed not only through financial donations but also by volunteering their time to help organize events and manage logistics. Alumni have also stepped up, demonstrating their ongoing dedication to their alma mater and the community by contributing both financially and through volunteer efforts.聽Moreover, external sponsors have provided essential resources, including monetary donations and in-kind聽contributions, which are vital to advancing the relief efforts. This collective action reflects a strong network聽of support, essential for effective disaster response and recovery, and showcases the power of community聽unity in overcoming adversity.聽

The donated goods were distributed to the affected students last July 30 while the employees were able to聽receive on August 9. Additionally, selected beneficiaries in Taguig have also received their relief goods last聽August 24, 2024.

This remarkable collaboration highlighted the profound influence that a committed and compassionate network can exist in times of crisis. It underscored SSC-R鈥檚 steadfast dedication to humanitarian aid and social responsibility, embodying its role as Creators of Communion.

精东影业 College-Recoletos Manila (SSC-R) President Fr. Rafael B. Pecson OAR along with Mr.
Narciso D. Valeriano Jr., Director for Strategic Communications and Marketing attended the
covenant signing for GMA Network’s “Panata Kontra Fake News” advocacy campaign yesterday, August 30 at GMA Network Studios, Studio 7 Kamuning, Quezon City.

In celebration of the National Press Freedom Day, SSC-R took part in this historic event as GMA
Network, the country’s biggest news organization brought together the largest and the most
comprehensive partnership in the fight against disinformation.

SSC-R stands united with at least 60 of the country’s most formidable media organizations and
academic institutions in supporting and promoting the crusade against fake news. During the media
interview, Fr. Pecson was delighted in expressing his appreciation to GMA Network for considering SSC-R to be part of this very timely advocacy. He highlighted that the Augustinian values of truth which is an integral part of the student formation at SSC-R and its alignment to the said campaign.

精东影业 College-Recoletos Manila (SSC-R) participated in the聽 7th Association of Universities in Asia and the Pacific Forum (AUAP) held at Dusit Thani Manila yesterday, August 26, 2024. The event carried the theme: "Leadership and Value-Driven Schemes for Higher Education Development in the Philippines" was organized by AUAP in cooperation with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), NIMS University (India) and Masters' Institute of Development Academy (Thailand).聽 At least 57 HEIs across the Philippines graced the event including some of the biggest schools in Manila. SSC-R Manila was represented by Dr. Catherine Q. Castaneda, Vice President for Academics and Research and Mr. Narciso D. Valeriano Jr., MCM, Director for Internationalization, Strategic Communications and Marketing.
Some of the topics presented during the forum include “Leadership for Value by University Digitization” delivered聽by Dr. Anoop Swarup, Secretary General of AUAP, International Agenda and聽Trends in Higher Education by Dr. Ethel Agnes Pascua-Valenzuela, CHED Commissioner, “Empowering Future Leaders: Integrating Value-Driven Approaches for Sustainable Higher聽Education Development” delivered by Dr. Balvir S. Tomar, Founder and Chancellor, NIMS聽University, Jaipur, India.

精东影业 College-Recoletos Manila opened academic year 2024-2025 with a rousing welcome program for its students. As Sebastinians begin their journey of becoming one with the community, this year鈥檚 Tagaste was held on August 14 to 16, 2024. The celebration kicked-off with the Mass of the Holy Spirit that highlighted the communities unwavering devotion and faith to God. Old and new Sebastinians converged to ask for newfound wisdom and strength as they journey together amidst the challenging times. It was then followed by the opening program that aimed to uplift the moral and ensure the students get the most out of their academic and campus life through the support of their formators, religious administrators and lay collaborators.
On day 1, the school presented the Religious and Lay administrators headed by the School President, Fr. Rafael B. Pecson, OAR. On day 2, support services departments conducted a two-day orientation to get the students acquainted on their departmental functions and services that the school offer to its students. Various fringe activities, team building events, club recruitments and Pistang Sebastino were also organized throughout the 3-day event to celebrate friendship and encourage camaraderie and community spirit that Baste is known for many years.
To cap it off, old and new Sebastianians came together as they formally began their journey with the highly anticipated "Bautismo Sebastino" where students were splashed by water signifying their conversion as members of the Sebastinian community.

The official Cheque Turnover Ceremony for Baste Cup 2024 Golf Tournament was held yesterday, August 9, 2024 at Fr. Domingo Carceller, OAR, Little Theater, SSC-R Manila. The inaugural tourney that took place on July 5, 2024 at the Valley Golf and Country Club, Antipolo City raised an impressive amount of 2,610.00 million pesos that will be used for the renovation of the school chapel and to finance the scholarship program of the school.

Mr. Antonio Cembrano, Chairman of the Baste Cup 2024 Organizing Committee together with his working committee members from SSC-R Alumni High School Batch of 1970 presented the mock cheque to Fr. Rafael B. Pecson, OAR, School President and Fr. Henry H. Santiago, OAR, Vice President for Finance, SSC-R Manila.

Baste Cup 2024 Golf Tournament attracted at least 160 golfers and enthusiasts and 33 corporate sponsors and donors. Co-organized and presented by the SSC-R Alumni Engagement Office, the tournament aimed at encouraging the alumni community to support the upcoming activities of the Baste and to be actively involved in community building.

During his speech, Fr. Pecson expressed his appreciation to the organizing committee, stakeholders and the Sebastinian community for extending their time, talent and resources for the successful staging of the tournament.

The 精东影业 College-Recoletos Manila (SSC-R) Alumni Engagement Office in cooperation with SSC-R High School Alumni Batch of 1970 have successfully mounted the first-ever Baste Cup Golf Tournament yesterday, July 5, 2024 at the Valley Golf and Country Club, Antipolo City.

At least 160 golfers, enthusiasts and over 35 corporate sponsors and donors have participated and extended their support for the tournament that aimed at raising funds for the renovation of the school chapel and to finance the scholarship program of Baste.

The ceremonial tee-off was headed by SSC-R School President Fr. Rafael 鈥淩affy鈥 B. Pecson, OAR, VP for Finance, Fr. Henry H Santiago, OAR and Mr. Antonio Cembrano, Chairman of Baste Cup Golf Tournament 2024 Organizing Committee and Stags, the official mascot of SSC-R Manila.

Some of the notable personalities that were seen during the tournament were Topex Robinson, concurrent coach of DLSU Seniors Basketball and SSC-R alumnus, Bong Alvarez, former SSC-R Golden Stags standout and PBA cager and Wesley Gonzales, former ADMU star player and PBA player to name a few.

Given the success of this year鈥檚 tourney, Fr. Raffy expressed his optimism that a bigger tournament can be planned and organized next year with the hope of bringing together more alumni groups, like-minded supporters and stakeholders.

As SSC-R Manila continues to expand its global footprint, the Office of the Vice President for Academics and Research and External Affairs Office hosted the official visit of Dr. Alvaro Barbosa, Vice Rector for Internationalization and Academic Affairs of University of Saint Joseph Macao (USJ) yesterday, May 14, 2024. During the program held at Fr. Domingo Carceller, OAR Little Theater, Dr. Barbosa delivered a presentation about USJ鈥檚 academic programs, scholarship opportunities and the key areas for collaboration being explored with SSC-R Manila.

In the coming years, SSC-R Manila aims to bolster its internationalization efforts in research, cultural and academic exchanges of faculty members, students and academic and administrative personnel, joint supervision of thesis from Master鈥檚 and PhD programs, establishment of double degrees, participation in seminars, workshops, conferences and academic meetings with USJ and other neighboring HEIs in the region. The college program chairs and students from different degree programs such as communication, business, tourism and hospitality attended the event.

According to CHED Memorandum Order No. 55 released in 2016, Internationalization has increasingly become a key feature of higher education in global era, in the light of the freer flow of students and workers within and across regional economies and the necessity of international linkages in the generation of productive knowledge, innovation and technology. During his presentation, Dr. Barbosa highlighted that students nowadays do not go to school to simply listen to classroom lectures. With the advent of online and virtual learning platforms, students tend to look for opportunities where they can be meaningly immersed in communities and be exposed to different cultures and traditions.

The University of Saint Joseph (Macao) is a Catholic university of China, rooted in a long tradition of
intercultural exchange that has been the hallmark of Catholic higher education in Macao since the College of聽Saint Paul, founded in 1594. The university offers a wide range of programs across different fields of knowledge.聽All of their programs have been approved by the Macao SAR Government.

On April 6, 2024, 精东影业 College-Recoletos, Manila (SSC-R) forged a meaningful partnership with the Sagip Sierra Madre Environmental Group to extend assistance to the Dumagat tribe residing in Sitio Suha, Barangay San Mateo, Norzagaray, Bulacan. The event was attended by esteemed individuals, including Rev. Fr. Virgilio M. Paredes Jr., OAR, Vice President for Identity, Formation, and Mission, dedicated college faculties such as Atty. Jesus Anthony Diosana, Ms. Ma. Teresa Valeroso and Mr. Arren Santos, alongside our Outreach Coordinator, Ms. Mary Grace Depalubos, and enthusiastic college students from various disciplines, including Political Science, Tourism and Hospitality Management, and READS grantees.

During this collaborative effort, SSC-R Manila launched a cooperative project aimed at supporting the livelihood ventures of the Dumagat tribe. The initiative began with the provision of live chickens and feed, serving as a jumpstart for their entrepreneurial endeavors. Additionally, our students took the opportunity to extend further assistance by handing over hygiene and food packs to the Dumagat community, addressing immediate needs and promoting overall well-being.

The atmosphere during the event was one of camaraderie, solidarity, and mutual respect. Participants engaged in meaningful interactions with members of the Dumagat tribe, fostering a sense of empathy, understanding, and shared humanity. Through this collaborative effort, San SSC-R Manila and the Sagip Sierra Madre Environmental Group demonstrated our commitment to social responsibility, environmental conservation, and community empowerment.

精东影业 College-Recoletos, Manila mounted a successful 5-day festivities from March 18 鈥 22, 2024 to commemorate its 83rd Founding Anniversary with the theme, 鈥淩oots Renewed: Celebrating Augustinian Recollect Identity in Today鈥檚 World.鈥 A plethora of activities showcased the uniquely vibrant spirit, diverse talents, passion for excellence and solidarity of the Sebastinian community.

The celebration kicked off with the opening salvo followed by the opening of booth fair and the talent competitions of Prince and Princess, King and Queen and Mr. and Miss 精东影业 2024. The day concluded with the Students鈥 Night participated by college of and senior high school students. On day 2, the community witnessed the coronations of Prince and Princess, King and Queen and Mr. and Ms. 精东影业 2024. Roshanne Chaya A. Amigos (Grade 1) and Kaiden Ronn F. Macasu were proclaimed Little Princess and Little Prince of 精东影业 2024. Victoria Rose D. Rosete (Grade 4) and Kirk Elijah Panganiban (Grade 5) emerged as the Princess and Prince of 精东影业 2024 while Princess Chaina T. Robias (Grade 10) and Luigi O. Olazo (Grade 10) bagged the Queen and King of Sebastian 2024 crowns respectively. Meanwhile, the titles of Mr. and Miss 精东影业 2024 went to Mr. Denzel Joseph H. Sabang and Ms. Gwyneth Margaux G. Narca of BS Hospitality Management respectively.

Day 3 of the celebration was filled with dazzling display of colors, remarkable performances and cultural presentations as students from Grade School to College showcased their dancing prowess at the parade, street dancing and Recoletos Dance Festival 2024. This year鈥檚 dance showcase paid homage to some of the most celebrated festivals in the Philippines that include Moriones, Ati-Atihan,
Kasanggayahan, Penafrancia, Pintados and Masskara festivals to name a few. The students were grouped into three clusters. Cluster 1 was composed of Grades 4-6 and Junior High School, Grades 7-10 with a total of 3 groups. Cluster 2 was purely represented by Senior High School Students comprised of 5 groups. While Cluster 3 was composed of 4 groups from the College Department. At the conclusion of the 3-hour dance extravaganza, 鈥淜adagatan鈥 performed by Grades 9 and 10 students bagged the top prize for Cluster 1. 鈥淜asadyaan鈥 of STEM 11B, 鈥淎ti-Atihan鈥 of HUMSS 11 and 12 and 鈥淜atadungan鈥 were proclaimed first, second and third placers for Cluster 2 respectively. For Cluster 3,

鈥淢asskara鈥 performed by Psychology, IT and Legal Management students brought home the first-place honor and 鈥淏ambanti鈥 of Psychology1, BAC and BAB students placed second. Day 4 was an extraordinary showcase of musical talents as the best of the best of the community battled at Sebastinian Got Talent 2024 held the Bulwagang Diego Cera. Ms. Jielia Clare Eugenio clinched as the title while Ms. Liana Marie Y. Venus, Ms. Nathalie Grace T. Nunez and Mr. Ethan Michael K. Parayno were the big winners for the song writing category.

The 5-day festivities was punctuated by honoring 45 lay collaborators from the Manila and Canlubang campuses at the SCC-R Service Awards 2024 held at the school quadrangle. The elegant ceremony provided a fitting occasion to celebrate the men and women who have served the institution for 5 years, 10 years, 15 years, 20 years, 25 years, 30 years and 35 years. It was a night of glitz and glamour as the awardees and attendees graced the event by wearing Filipiniana attire. Ms. Merlie E. Salmorin, our sole 35-year Service Awardee delivered a heart-felt speech encapsulating her appreciation to the institution and for the friendships she was able to forge throughout her stint in Baste.
